Those who question if American-style democracy will ever be established in Afghanistan point to reports of voting problems in the recent election, as well as concerns over turnout and claims of victory by both leading candidates.
Hmmm. Almost sounds like our 2000 presidential election, doesn't it? Maybe the Afghan people have made more progress than we thought.

We did forever lose our ability to credibly criticize the backwardness of other political systems with that bizarre election.
And maybe that's not a bad thing.
