Do you know how when commenting on a blog posting we're required to copy a word to verify we're human? They're supposed to be "nonsense" words, a random series of consonants and vowels. But lately they've started to take on meanings for me. For example --

gortso (gore-tso)

What you call someone who has an insatiable appetite for gory movies, as in, "You're a real gortso, aren't you?"

feinstr (fane-ster)

Someone who is always pretending to be angry, happy, etc. "Here comes the feinstr."

fulnelne (full-kneel-knee)

A medical condition resulting from excessive kneeling: "I'm afraid you have all of the symptoms of fulnelne."

Kneeling is an occupational hazard for most Catholics. But it was worse back in the day, when the nuns would rap you on the rear if your fanny touched the seat while you were supposed to be kneeling in church.

Yeah, and when I first started receiving communion we had to fast from midnight. But I outfoxed them. About halfway through the Mass I'd start to swoon, so they let me eat breakfast beforehand.

That's pretty funny. Surviving Catholic grade school is a lot like having been in the military: while it wasn't usually too much fun at the time, the experience always seems funnier and more interesting years later. Fasting was never my strong suit.
